Uesugi Shrine was built on the site of the Honmaru Okugoten of Yonezawa Castle. Located in the center of Matsugamisaki Park. The shrine is dedicated to Kenshin Uesugi. The current main shrine was designed by Chuta Ito, a Yonezawa native known for designing Meiji Shrine and Heian Shrine. It was rebuilt in 1923. The main shrine was destroyed by a fire in 1919.
Roshouden (Hall of Ridicule)
The Uesugi family’s treasures and about 1,000 cultural properties are stored and exhibited here. It houses and displays a wide variety of treasures of the Uesugi family, including armors, armors, swords, paintings, books, and clothing.
